Our minister, Rev Kate Dean, has taken over the helm from Rev Tony McNeile in organising the Earth Spirit Network (ESN), a group for those who see the divine in nature. ESN was founded in 1990 by Rev Peter Roberts as the Neo Pagan Network and eventually changed its name to the Unitarian Earth Spirit Network. Rosslyn Hill Chapel has offered pagan ceremonies for decades and has witnessed a growing interest in earth-centred spirituality over the years.
ESN will offer template scripts for each of the eight Wheel of the Year ceremonies over the coming year, as well as continuing with the annual 'File' publication of poems, readings, musings which is distributed to ESN Members. We hope that these scripts will support Unitarians and others to hold Wheel of the Year ceremonies for their groups and congregations.
The Wheel of the Year symbolises the cycle of the seasons, connecting us to the rhythm of the land. Many traditions celebrate eight festivals marking birth, growth, death, and rebirth. The Quarter Days include Yule (winter solstice), Litha (summer solstice), Ostara (spring), and Mabon (autumn). The Cross-Quarter Days reflect agricultural needs and mystical themes: Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasad, and Samhain or Hallowe’en.
