We're hiring! Finance Assistant

Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel is a vibrant Unitarian Chapel and open-minded spiritual community in Hampstead, North London. We organise events and workshops for spiritual growth as well as taking part in social action projects including a cold weather shelter for the homeless. We are looking for an experienced Finance Assistant to maintain our financial and administrative processes, and support our commitment to excellent governance, supporting the wider team’s work of the Chapel and the Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities will include:

Financial Administration, Governance and Compliance, Donor Liaison, including Gift Aid. Lead on the week-to-week management of financial operations and ensure sound financial routines, procedures and compliance with all relevant financial statutory and regulatory requirements. Assist with ensuring legal compliance and filing with respect to Insurance, Charity Commission, Companies House and HMRC requirements. Tasks include banking cash, setting up online payments and reconciling bank accounts. Other administrative tasks as required.


Required skills:

  • Minimum one year relevant experience including bookkeeping preferably working with a charity/not-for-profit

  • Experience of sound accounting and financial management

  • Strong numeracy skills and accuracy

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills and reliability

  • Good practical understanding of data protection and confidentiality

  • Experience of contributing to strategic, organisational and financial planning processes

  • Good understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the charity sector

  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office, email, online platforms

  • Passion and commitment to the Chapel values, work and direction

  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable with good organisational skills


We are looking for confidence and maturity, a positive outlook and a charitable mindset, and a proven ability to work independently and with a team. Clear communication skills in written and spoken English are vital. The successful candidate will work closely with the Administrator, the Minister and the Trustees.


We offer a competitive rate of £16.50 per hour, average weekly hours 10 with flexible working partly onsite on Friday afternoons and the remaining hours worked remotely (if preferred).
